Myrtle Beach South Carolina Will No Longer Host Motorcycle Rallies
Posted January 12, 2009
MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina - In an official statement released by Mayor John Rodes, the city will no longer host any motorcycle rallies. The mayor states in his message that "after many years, our residents grew weary of three weeks of noise and traffic congestion each May, and they asked City Council to end the events." The city has gone so far to create a website that outlines the new rules and ordinances for those riding motorcycles in the city limits under the premise of everyone's safety and welfare.
To further add insult, there is a FAQ section that asks such questions as "So, is Myrtle Beach anti-biker?" and "Are the city痴 efforts constitutional?" just to name a few. However, there appears to be some pending legal action as a result of these new ordinances the FAQ section indicates.
It seems completely absurd that any municipality would go to such lengths to ban motorcycle events and discourage visitors who choose a motorcycle as their mode of transportation to visit Myrtle Beach. In todays tough economic times, working with business and residents to mitigate concerns generated from holding motorcycle rallies seems more of a win win situation then driving events and business completely away.
